Google My Business Limitations Due to Covid-19
Due to the recent pandemic, Google My Business services and functionalities are being reduced to prioritize high need industries and counteract possible bandwidth issues with team members.
“During the unprecedented COVID-19 situation, we are taking steps to protect the health of our team members and reduce the need for people to come into our offices. As a result, there may be some temporary limitations and delays in support as we prioritize critical services.”
What is being prioritized?
- Reviews and edits for critical to health-related businesses
- Reviews for open and closed states, special hours, temporary closures, and business descriptions
- Business attributes edits for other verified businesses
- The GMB support team will manually review new listings, claims, and verifications for critical health-related businesses
Users should expect a delay for publication of new listings, clams, and verifications for other types of businesses to Google Search and Maps.
What is not being prioritized?
- New reviews
- Review replies
What Does This Mean for Your Business?
If you are manually requesting reviews from your clients or using automation, we’d recommend pausing that for the time being. There is no guarantee that reviews written during this time period will retroactively posted. Continually earning reviews for your business is vital part of local SEO, with this on pause, what can you do instead? We’d recommend focusing some time on content creation. Write blog posts or have some trusted clients record testimonials to post. While the next few months may not be the most profitable, it can be a good time to focus on and optimize your website.
